Did you know that most likely, everywhere you have ever been with your cell phone in your pocket is part of the public record? There is a digital map that exists of every place you go, showing the GPS location, the day and time, and we know it was you? Did you know that it is even possible to go back in time to figure where you were at a specific time and date?
It is very disconcerting, but true. Your cell phone tracks everywhere you go and creates a digital map of your misadventures. Maybe you’ve turned off your phone tracking, but do you have apps on that phone? What about Accuweather? Do you let it show you the weather wherever you’re located? Then you are still being tracked. You’ve given it permission.
This is the technology we use for Mobile Device I.D. targeting. It’s the same technology the FBI uses to track bank robbers. But we use it to find people that want to buy guitars, or pianos, or microphones, or cables, or sheet music, or speakers. We target very specific locations by their GPS coordinates, then correlate that information to the phones that enter those properties, identifying the phones by their specific mobile I.D. number, then following those phones.
So lets say you go into a guitar shop. Bam! We capture your phone I.D. We assume you like guitars because you were at the guitar shop, of course. And within a few hours, we can start running display ads to your phone through your apps, because it’s the app technology that allows us to legally identify you. So for those first few days, we can only reach you in your apps.
But then you go home. How do we know you’re at home? Because your phone stays there 2 nights in a row. Either you got lucky 2 times or you sleep there. You also have a WiFi signal at your home, and an I.P. address. So through the connection on your phone, we can identify your I.P. address, then all the other devices including your phone attached to that I.P. This is where it gets really fun. We can now send display ads AND video ads to wherever you surf across the internet. Maybe you want to read a news story, but first, you have to watch this :15 video about the newest guitar. Or you are looking for the latest sports scores, and right next to that is an ad for an effects pedal.
Mobile I.D. allows us to identify people that shop for what you are selling, at their time of interest or purchase.
But it’s not evil. If you are a guitar player, you want to see ads and videos for the guitar-related products. So you are VERY likely to click through to those ads to learn more. Even better, it is very inexpensive compared to most other media. You pay on a cost-per-thousand ads basis, with prices as little as the $9.00 range. That is $9.00 dollars to run 1,000 ads to your best prospects!
